Short Description:

A four part study investigating the prevalence, incidence and characteristics of Asthma and COPD Overlap Syndrome (ACOS) in the obstructive lung disease population, to develop a diagnostic tool for use in primary care.

  • Stage 1 objective: To identify the prevalence and incidence of patients diagnosed as having ACOS
  • Stage 2 objective: To identify the burden and cost of ACOS compared with COPD and asthma populations
  • Stage 3 objective: To assess respiratory and cardiovascular outcomes in ACOS, COPD, asthma treated with inhaled corticosteroids, inhaled corticosteroid/long acting beta agonists and long acting beta agonists alone
  • Stage 4 objective: To compare the characteristics in patients diagnosed with ACOS to produce a tool for diagnosis
